I am thinking the ceiling is just too low for such a huge softbox, would this be a fair assumption? We shoot newborns, maternity mainly. Would a smaller one suit this type of room better or is it acceptable to have this box basically floor to ceiling?
A rectangular box of identical coverage lets you get it's mid (and the bottom edge also) closer to the ceiling than a circular (octa) shaped softbox allows .... talk of nose / chin shadows.
I have a 59-60" incher and prior to hitting home I have dreams of the wonderful soft light and creamy looks I was going to get out of this... Upon setting it up I stopped and wondered just what the hell I was thinking!
It's sizable. Especially in a 'home studio' with average home ceiling heights. But I've kept it and just use it when the neighbors get out of hand or when I'm really ambitious for a setup job..
Nothing wrong with a big light source. I've used the 74" EL Octa in rooms with 8' ceilings. You just have to be aware of the amount of spill you're going to get.
The 69" Rotalux is a great box, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it.
