p.1 #1 · Elinchrom Quadra with Paul Buff 35" Octa

Hey guys

Just wondering if anyone has used this setup? And what 3rd party adaptors do I need?

I've seen the Paul Buff 35" Octa with grid and it seems the prefect light for my outdoor portraits. I like harsh lights and the fact that it has a grid on it as well to make it a little more controllable, ease of getting it up and down as well is an advantage. I cuurently us the Rotalux 70x70 with grid so want something a little bigger and offers round catch lights.

I'll be using this and some of the Paul Buff strip lights with Elinchrom Quadra and Ranger RX lights.

WHAT SPEED RING ADAPTORS DO I NEED?

Any links, suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks
Jon

You could always try a Chinese box:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Solutions-Octagon-Softbox-Speedring-Elinchrom/dp/B003EWKPZ6/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1334597878&sr=8-7

you would still need a Quadra to standard Elinchrom adaptor.

I think they make a 36 inch model too. I have the 60 inch one.

get one of these (or there's a 47" size): http://www.phottixstore.com/store/studio-accessories/phottix-easy-up-80cm-32-octa-umbrella-softbox-with-grid.html

I bought this adapter ring to use with the same PCB Octabox:

It was much easier to make the switch than I anticipated and I liked the results.

Hey Paul - thanks for the reply. Any chance of a picture of now it looks all paired up. I hear that the element doesn't protrude into the modifier very far?? What is the quality of light like from the modifier?

Appreciate your thoughts on this one.

I'm also considering getting the 10x36 strip boxes, you got those?

Cheers, Jon

Hi John,
I've not noticed any issues re the element not protruding in sufficiently. You're replacing the original PCB speed ring with the one I mentioned, but I should point out that you have to use the Ranger Quadra Reflector Adaptor due to the weight of the soft box. As a result, it'll sit back somewhat, but I've not had any issues re light output. i like the quality of the light it puts out though.

I don't have the strip boxes you referenced. I already had the PCB box when I got the Quadras. I've also bought a Lastolite Ezybox and this adapter, which allows use without the above-mentioned Ranger Quadra Reflector Adaptor :http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/817457-REG/Lastolite_LL_LS2362Q_Ezybox_Quadra_Speedring_Adapter.html

It'll be a few days until I'll have a chance to get you shots of the setup.

I use the Rotalux Octa Midi and love it! I have a three head setup with my quadras and I now have 2 midis and 1 deep throat octa. Started trying to retrofit my existing modifiers only to go to Eli's. I will say that Eli has it down in ease of assembly and quality of modifier. A couple more dollars now means years of use.
