Yep I have tracking on it, it is on its way. It is in Vancouver customs as of yesterday. Should be here next week or if lucky tomorrow. Then I can get it ready to send back. But I need to open it because it also has my 3 series levelling base in it so can't just refuse shipping and make it easy on myself.
I ordered mine on March 4th.
Don't worry, they will not ship you the first version anymore. They are one of the best companies for customer service in the entire camera industry. Probably only Apple has better customer service in the entire US.
Perhaps there was some design change by Canon late in the process not communicated in time to some of the third party vendors before they had manufactured initial products based off of earlier Canon specs? And given all of the other "bugs" users seem to be finding with this camera after the first couple weeks - maybe this is a result of Canon rushing this camera into production?
Just speculating...
No sir, they waited for their 5dm3 like everyone else and made these as a result. I don't know why this went out like this but they have made it right by not making us pay to ship it to them and offering a replacement. They are even ok with us using the plate till our newly designed plate arrives. I got mine today but i havent even opened the box. I printed the label and will ship it back tomorrow.
Thanks RRS, now don't do something like this again, PLZ.

So explain to the rest of us why they would intentionally make a defective product and ship it out, just so they could recall it and pay for return shipping?

I cancelled my order pending the outcome. I have several pieces of RRS equipment, and have had great experience with them in the past. I hope they get this straightened out.
FWIW, my confidence restored today after the recall, I replaced my order today for the B5D3A and the B5d3-LA.
I kinda wish the guy on the phone had been a little more reassuring, rather than defensive, but I do understand. After you've answered the Nth question about a product defect, it's a bit difficult to present a neutral position.
I do love RRS and their products, and I'm pleased that they have corrected the issue. They continue to earn our business.
I find that it's interesting that any manufacture that "recall" their product got praises and deem super customer service except Canon
Everyone restores their faith in the manufacture but when Canon rumorly recalls anything, it's their head that got hung for not doing QA and crappy customer service.
I just got a message back from Mark at RRS (minutes after I asked BTW) as to the status of my back-ordered L-Bracket. I was wondering ship dates and I wanted to confirm I would get the revised plate:
"Thanks again for choosing RRS. I still don't have any definitive shipping dates for the heavily backordered plate. My best estimate is the gear will be shipping within the next few weeks. You will be receiving the revised plate. Please feel free to continue checking back for updates."
They are 'solid' (pun intended) as it relates to customer service!
I have always thought it would be so cool if Canon didn't keep changing the shape and size of the camera bodies and then the plates and brackets would work across multiple bodies, is that too much to ask?

If anyone really needs a plate to use on the 5D III while they are waiting on their back order I can confirm that this plate will work:
I picked one up to use while waiting on the back order and it fits my 5D III just fine.
Nice - I have a Wimberly P5 which has been previously mentioned in this thread but the RRS generic one is nice because it has a 'strap boss' to attach a hand strap.
The RRS L-plate is actually almost perfect from my trial with it. RRS is letting me keep it till my free replacement arrives, then they want it sent back and that is fine and seems generous to me. I talked to one of the guys on the phone and mentioned that I didn't see much wrong with the L-plate but had seen online images of the non l-plate and that looked really wonky. He admitted the L-plate was only very slightly off but they decided to redesign it anyways.
Amazing customer service all around. I'm using the L-plate without issue right now but since I have it on a ball head I don't care if the plate is 100% level anyways. Still will enjoy having an even better fitting one when it arrives.

Can you let me know the Kirk look? Does it have the lip that curves around the edge of the body?
I don't see the pic on their website.
I may have to get a universal plate as I'm going to get a grip later and don't want to spend twice for a non-grip and a grip plate.
Yes, a pic would be nice if you can post one. Does the Kirk have a strap boss on it to loop a hand strap?

Excellent - thanks. What kind of strap is that affixed to the strap boss?
It is one of those OpTech connector/eyelets. I like them and use them for my BlackRapid straps. They don't get in the way when the strap is not in use. Plus, they're inexepensive.
Has anyone heard any updates on when the Rev.A plates and L-Brackets will start shipping?
I looked closely at my 40D L-Bracket the other day on a shoot and it it nicely curved like the Kirk plate above posted by 'blschaefer1' - I hope RRS does the same for the new 5D3 plates rather than the triangular shim they installed on Rev.0.
After four years, the 40D with the L-Bracket has no marks on it. I wouldn't want my Mark.III to inadvertently become a Mark.IV
Thanks for the heads up on the Kirk Pz 148 plate, they are shipping mine today, as I patiently await their Gripped L bracket, no rush as Canon may not have the BG-11 out till mid May.
I have so many RRS plates, ballheads, quick releases, and was hesitant to pick up the Kirk Pz 148 plate. But decided to take the jump, and it fits like a glove. Really fits the contours of the camera.
The finish is not as nice as RRS, but that's not the point, I need a functional plate that wont scratch the 5D III. No problem on Acratech ballheads also.
