1. Low noise at high ISO (How much better than my D300 can I expect?). With my D300 the noise (primarily in the background) begins to annoy me at ISO 800.
2. The greatly enhanced freedom to significantly crop images in FX mode.
What are your thoughts about the 300 f4 AFS on the D800?
noise performance is based off the sensors and how it takes ISO, needless to say (i thought) D800 "creams" the D300.
at 3x the resoulution, your going to have a much better time with cropping images- if you go that route. A big selling point for the D300 side depending how you shoot- is the 2x as Fast FPS when gripped. If your not already doing it- invest in a 1.4x TC and shoot at 420mm @ 5.6 and see how you like it, then consider trying the D800 for tighter crops.
