I much prefer scrolling the wheel over pounding on the buttons but I actually wish it would be the back dial and not the top wheel.
+1 on preferring the scroll wheel to pushing buttons. As for preferring the back wheel to the main dial, well, then you'd just have to move the function to advance from one shot to the next from the back wheel somewhere else. Six of one . . . as far as I'm concerned. Quite happy with it as it is. Just a matter of getting used to it.
Hi all.- is there a way to map to set that automatically zooms to 100%. I have image view mapped to set but still have to use the scroll wheel to zoom in.

Yes, go to Play3 in the Menu, then scroll down to Magnificatn and set your desired default magnification there.
mine is also set to set button, actual size, focus point, and honestly, I really like it. you will then use the index finger to zoom in and out. once use to it, I like it better than my 5d2.
I'm going to try this too. I just can't get my head around to the new way, it seems to take too long and is too clunky, at least for me..... Probably because I switch between cameras and am used to the old habits....
I set my set button to zoom to AF point. I prefer it over the magnify button and possibly the old style as well. You have to set it in custom controls.
I was pissed off initially because the magnify button placement to the left (and use of wheel to - or +) effectively killed my live view shooting process.

You can remap the magnify function to the Set button, and specify how much magnification you want. From there, zoom in or out with the main dial. I've got mine set up so that when I push the Set button, it zooms in to 100% at the focus point.
I always like to see as much flexibility as possible, and allowing use of the "old" zoom buttons would surely please a lot of users for various personal reasons, especially those who use the 5DIII alongside other bodies.
For me, it was a very quick adjustment to the new system, and I find it faster and easier to use than the old way. I wish I could set up my 1D4 to work like the 5D3!
At first I was a little surprised by the change so I tried mapping to set button and main wheel - but I didn't find that comfortable. I've switched back to the zoom button and, now that I'm used to it, I prefer it to the old multiple pushes of the right hand buttons. I only use it to go to 100% (or whatever) to check focus and I use my left hand to push the play button first anyway.
Of course, that's no reason why users shouldn't be given the option of using the old system, particularly since those buttons don't have any new functions assigned to them. Now, if they would let me use one of them to enable mirror lockup, I'd be happy.

I don't see it as a huge step backwards. What could be simpler than skipping the review button, pressing on the magnifying button "one time" to get an enlarged view that can be customized to any magnification desired? A very minor getting used to type thing for me

Well, it really depends on what you use it for . If just to review photos, then the change was ok.
But when you use it to check focus while manual focusing with the LCD, its impossible to use! You use your left hand to twist the focus ring, and you now have to use that same hand to zoom in on the LCD as well. you lose stability and the framing of the subject will get altered.
But good thing they allow you to assign it to the SET button.
I realized last night when I was micro-adjusting my lenses that the zoom in for the Live-View is a PITA also. The zoom in dial doesn't work. You have to hit the Magnify button a few times to get to 10x. What a Pain!!!
I really can't see any justification for not allowing you to reassign the buttons in line with other recent bodies. I regulalrly use the 1DIV and 7D and switching to the 5DIII is then a PITA.
Is it possible to zoom to 100% from the AF point used rather than the centre at the touch of one button? Direct 100% view seems limited to magnification from the centre as far as I can see. And what on earth do they mean by actual size?
