p.1 #1 · Question about Nikon tilt shift lens

I am considering buying a 45 PC-E lens and I was wondering if any one has all three 24,45 and 85.
Optically I think all three are very good, but I am wondering if there is much difference between the three. Sharpness corner to corner, contrast, colors, flair etc.
I know this is probably splitting hairs.
Thanks
Dennis

I've got all of them.

The 85 is the sharpest, the 45 has some CA and the 24 is certainly good enough.

p.1 #3 · Question about Nikon tilt shift lens

I have all 3 and honestly, all 3 are great glass. 85 is probably the sharpest but they are all really sharp glass overall.

The biggest difference is the focal length and IMHO the 45/85 are built better than the 24 in design because you have easier access to rotate the assembly. Also less clearance issues on non-D3 cameras. All 3 take filters well. 24 obviously vignettes first. 45/85 have better hoods [the hood on the 24 is a joke] but again, to be expected with higher focal lengths.

45/85 make good macros too.

I only have the 24.... But I love it. The 45mm is next for me.

p.1 #5 · Question about Nikon tilt shift lens

Thanks for the replies I would be using on my D800 and I am leaning toward the 45. I think if I want wider I can stitch , then again I guess I do the same with the 85. I can only afford one and it seems a hard choice.

p.1 #6 · Question about Nikon tilt shift lens

Choice is easier depending what you shoot. If you are doing product shots, the 45 or 85 [emphasis probably on the 85] would be top pick. If you are doing architecture or anything that needs wide angle [landscape] the 24 is probably #1 pick and then 45 after that. Finally, if you shoot people you probably want the 45 or 85 with preference towards the 45 as that is a commonly used lens by wedding and portrait 'togs.

Hope that helps.
