I had the Tamron 28-75 f/2.8 for a few years. Honestly, it was a great lens. But in the middle of shooting a wedding, I accidentally bumped it and it broke in two. I had to shoot the rest of the wedding with my 17-40L. I got the Tamron fixed, sold it, and bought the Canon 24-70L. I have a lot more confidence the ruggedness of the Canon lens. However, the Tamron served me very well for several years.
I know their completely different lenses but does anyone think Sigma shipping the 50-150 F2.8 OS for $1099.00 might effect later pricing on the Tamron 24-70 f2.8 VC? I've been waiting for this lens but not at this price.

How did that escape my notice!? That sounds like a great focal length range; I'll have to look into that. I don't think it would have any influence on the price of the Tamron, or any other, 24-70 though. Just my hunch...
Edit:
Bah! I just learned that the 50-150 is for APS-C sensor cameras only. Too bad - I think that would be a good range on full-frame.

And if the specs are to be believed its almost the same size as the ff 70-200 os

I doubt it. The announced price of the new 24-70 would have given Tamron some room for pricing. But they would also have to have an eye on the Nikon and Sony ones as well. But then both those are not cheap as well

The recent Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 HSM is only $809 shipped at Abe's of Maine after the $15 off coupon. The lens has been receiving pretty good reviews.

That's not the new "IS" lens being discussed here......
The 24-70L and 24-70Lmk2 being discussed in this thread don't have I.S. either. It looks to me like a $800 Sigma alternative to those lenses is much more reasonable than a $1300 Tamron alternative.
Frankly, I'm not optimistic about the 24-70 VC. The original Tamron 17-50 f2.8 was a highly regarded lens, but when Tamron added VC to it the results were downright terrible. I reckon that a full frame version of that lens poses an even tougher challenge for Tamron's engineers.
if you click the picture you will be able to see the original image.
5d mark 2 + 24-70 vc possibly. the blogger is not sure about the camera.
The sample images look very good but I'm wondering why they chose not to post any F2.8 images? Why make an f2.8 lens and not show it off at f2.8? The fast lens is everyones dream but fast and un-sharp is no good for anyone. I'll wait for reviews.
