p.3 #1 · 5D Mark III - 41 AF points work at f/8.0!
I just checked my 400/5.6 w/ a kenko 1.4, my 500/4 w/ a kenko 2x & my 600/4 w/my kenko 2x on my 5d3. They all snapped to focus all points & all zones.( i checked all zones, but not every single point)
They did the same inside if there was any contrast at all. The only time it failed was pointed into my dark closet.
Big Country, if you have the pro model of the kenko 1.4x it should work on the 800, but I can't say for sure- never used one.

Alright, Jason ! I hope it will work well in the AI Servo mode. I got the feeling that it will and actually it should work well under good lighting conditions. As it is getting darker though, the AF will struggle but that is anticipated with any AF system.

Just an update: My Tamron 1.4x SP+100-400 AFs with the pins taped on my 5DIII as well, and it actually seems faster than that combo on my 1DIII. I'll post examples soon.

Well, that's great news , Matt.
As we briefly discussed, I did try the AI Servo mode of my f/5.6 lens in the weekend and the viewfinder got jittery and I abandoned the idea of even using the TC after that . Apparently, there is a conflict with the IS of that particular lens and with that of the 200mm f/2.0 lens if used with a 5D Mark III. Canon is aware of this issue and we are waiting for them to come up with a solution.

I have tested the 5D Mark III and a EF 300 f/4 L IS with Kenko C-AF 2X Teleplus Pro 300 DGX and the results are amazing. It focuses very well at f/8! I have also tested stacking the Canon TC EF 1.4X II on top of the Kenko for a total of 840 mm at f/11 and ... it works most of the time with good light. I feel confident enough that if there is good light that is my default set up for bird photography. I still have to give it a good test for BIF but I do not have good test subjects here.
