Mine says "Designed in Tokyo, Made in China" on the bottom of it.

You know, I read about people hitting the record button accidently but somehow I have not managed to hit it once yet. I must hold the camera wrong. Anyway, I bet they do something about it anyway on the next firmware update given the attn. it has recieved.

I find the Record button very well hidden on the NEX-7. The 5N was another story (as is the A33).

Hey millsart, since you're in Cowtown too....maybe, just maybe, we could meet up and you could let me, um...borrow it for a little while.

, Ken beat me to the punch, but I was thinking the same thing, seems that from most accounts I've read, handling one directly leads to buying one 99% of the time.

You'd of course be more than welcome to check it out in person sometime though if you did want to take that risk.

I had (and very much liked) the GH2 myself but think the EM-5 sounds like a bit of a better overall camera, at least for me. I never really did any video recording with mine so that wasn't a real feature for me, and while I did really like the multi-aspect sensor at times, I really missed having IBIS as my favorite lenses were the 12mm and 45mm, both of which aren't stabilized.

Also sounds counter intuitive at first, but I actually prefer a simply hinged LCD rather than the flip and twist GH2 style. When I've have a strap on the camera I just always found it was a real PITA trying to flip the screen out 180 degrees and then rotate it around to see it. Being able to easily wear the camera around my neck and quickly flip the screen out ala the NEX style just seems more practical day to day for me.

Lastly, while I haven't heard anyone mention it, the live bulb mode sounds awesome to me. I often enjoy doing some shots with a 10 stop ND filter and when your doing several minutes exposures its really annoying to find out you over exposed the shot and have to reshoot it. If we are talking a quickly fading sunset, several minutes wasted can be a big deal. So, being able to watch on the LCD as the image forms and stop the exposure when it looks how I want it sound really useful, not to mention really fun.

No reason to of course but I would think this camera would be much cooler if it had no video mode at all.

With such an impressive 5 axis stabilization system though I think there would be a lot of complaints about how cool it would be if it had video.

I myself don't really shoot much video, even with some cameras like the Gh2, which were supposed to be excellent at it, largely because I found my handheld video always looked pretty poor and made me sick to watch. I'm certainly not going to carry a fluid head etc around with me, but maybe if the IBIS is as good as I've been hearing, it actually will make me enjoy shooting some handheld footage that doesn't make me sick from the image jumping around.

Sounds like they took a page from Apple's playbook. It is a sexy looking camera.

The hum is definitely interesting, I've never heard a camera make a sound like it before. It sounds like my MacBook Pro's fan on its lowest speed. I wonder what that's for, is it just a fan inside the camera?

So far, after handling it a while, I can say that it mostly handles like an E-P3 with a better control layout and built in EVF, which is precisely what many people wanted. The camera has a nice heft to it, I was sort of caught off guard by that after handling an X-Pro1 so much recently. It feels quite substantial and well built. I haven't yet figured out a way to get the image review to appear inside the EVF, which is bit of an annoyance. Otherwise it's a pleasing camera to use.

Maybe it's the gyroscope inside the camera which is always active?

I thought the current consensus is that the hum is the sound made by the magnets holding the sensor at place. Now i don't recall where i read it but that should also be the official Olympus explanation.

To achieve the 5 axis stabilization the sensor is totally floating and the IBIS, with the stabilization function turned on or off, always holds it at place when the camera is turned on. (This is nothing new to anyone having used a Pentax camera with IBIS.)

The sound is clearly audible but never a problem in practical use. Yes, I know, by writing "never" there will soon enough come a flood of messages telling me I'm either wrong, or never should use the word never...

No it isn't that. These "gyros" don't spin at all. They are micro machined silicon resonators that operate well up in the ultrasonic region with an almost vanishingly small mass that can't really generate any acoustic energy.

If anything I'd guess it is actually the IBIS module itself, fast servomechanisms like that can actually make acoustic noise on their own even when sitting with an idle input.

Anyway it is a curious noise.

This is the exact opposite of my annoyance with the Fuji X100 I've currently got. When using the OVF/EVF, the camera will display the image after each shot (unless you've got it set to no review)

What happens when your using the OVF then is that after each shot the little window closes over the OVF and it switches to the EVF mode to review.

I find this a bit annoying myself as I would like the OVF to just always serve as an OVF fulltime and after each shot show the review on the LCD screen without having to press a button

Just like a DSLR works basically, you view through the viewfinder, review on the LCD. Thats my way of working and if thats how the EM5 works I'll be pleased

I think there should be a custom setting. I use the EVF for everything and would like to get the reviewed images as well as the menus to show up there given I have set the camera to activate the EVF.. That's because of age and declining eye-sight and i don't want to have to put my reading glasses on and off all the time.

Then I have no problems understanding some want the camera to work the traditional DSLR way. I can even think of some users wanting to have the EVF turned off all the time. Well, maybe not really but I gather some simply use the LCD only.

I misspoke, the image review does appear in the EVF, but if I hit the playback button with my eye to the EVF the image appears on the LCD. Kind of lame.

I don't think the hum is an issue in practical use, it's just strange.

OK. Does it happen your camera locks up momentarily when chimpin' in the EVF?

So this IBIS really works. E-M5 with Zeiss 100mm F2 lens on it. ISO 6400 F5.6 or F6.7 shutter set at 1/8
Handheld, jpeg straight out of camera.

@Jonas: Someone at DPR set me straight on EVF playback and menus (I too couldn't figure out how to do it on my own despite reading the 100 page manual). Turn off auto switching of the EVF and now playback and menus can be done in the EVF. You can quickly turn auto switching on or off without menu diving by just holding down the LV button on the side of the EVF for a few seconds and it will pop up a dialog.

+1. I ended up with many random clips from the 5N. The only time I've accidentally hit it on the 7 was when a friend handed it back to me without turning it off.

The IBIS does seem to be quite effective. I shot this in a darkened church where the only light was the natural light coming in from the stained glass windows, 1600 ISO handheld at 1/15.

I also noticed that the OM-D doesn't produce the red sunspots my EPL2 does when pointed directly at the sun, as in shots like this one:
