jasenz - the pic with the giraffe and the bird is absolutely phenomenal! I have a d800 and love the crazy amount of detail I'm getting with my camera but after looking at this shot I'm wondering if I should have got the d800e instead. do u also have a d800? if yes, are the heavily cropped images comparable?
one other question. i only shoot jpegs but if I shot RAW instead will the difference be worth all the trouble of dealing with post-processing? (i'm obviously not a pro, just an expensive hobby)
Hey thanks for the comments. I think the photo has not got much artistic quality but certainly shows the amount of detail the camera is capable of. It really is phenomenal.
I am pretty sure the d800 will give you just as much detail with the right processing. I dont have one to do any testing to compare however.
But i will be surprised to find much difference, as after all they are essentially almost the same camera. So you should really keep the D800 and be happy with it. I would have been happy with either model, but it just happens the D800e's queue is much shorter and i was comfortable moire was not going to be an issue with what i shoot.
With a camera like this, you should shoot raw irrespective of whether its a D800 or D800e. That is my opinion. And irrespective of whether you shoot raw or jpg, i dont think the difference between the two cameras is significant enough for one to trade one in for another. Just pick your weapon. You really cant go wrong
Finally got my Nikon D800 yesterday... I took this photo today with my Nikon AF-S 80-200 at ISO320 and f/4. This is my brother 10 month old puppy called Venus.
Do you guys mind posting a rough average of what your file sizes are like, and if that's compressed or uncompressed? I'm interested in some real work numbers.
The lower base ISO, and amazing dynamic range of the 800 is calling me ... the file size, not so much.
