Did Amazon send anyone D4s yet??
I know they're being funny with the D800 ship dates, but thought the D4 was pretty solid, esp. since quite a few people have them already.
Just curious as I was told verbally by a rep. that it would be shipped on the 21st, and I'd get a tracking #, but no such thing happened. I contacted Amazon, and they told me that the 21st was an estimated date. So now I'm curious if it's because I'm near the back of the list, or because they didn't ship out any D4 cameras at all... I'm not in a hurry, especially since it's not even being shipped to me directly, just curious where I stand that's all.
I spoke with Amazon yesterday, and received the standard line that they are "out of stock" on the D4. I also received an e-mail from Amazon which basically told me they have no idea when my D4 would ship.
Luckily, I decided to visit a couple of local small shops today and walked out with a new D4.
It went out on 3/20 but for some dumb reason it was shipped out standard shipping instead of 2 day prime... It will be here monday though. I'm not NPS btw.
Mine showed up Tuesday morning, down at OSU for two OHSAA boys semi-final games . . I guess I don't know how to use it just yet as I am more pleased with the results that I had achieved last week during the girls tournament with my D3's

May just be that I don't have the picture control where I want it yet?
Not D3s, pair of D3's. I've never even shot a D3s. I played with the picture controls a bit and seemed to have a it a little closer to where I want it, I'll have to just wait and see how the prints turn out before I know for sure.

Kyle,
Can you please elaborate more about the adjustments to the picture control? Is this something you are seeing for prints only?

Yes, what do you mean by that, and could you explain what you do with your D3's so we get a better idea of what you're going through.. Is it possibly just the colors? Different sensors see colors differently?! ISSUE?
I am just referring to adjusting the picture control (sharpening/contrast/brightness/saturation/hue) in order to get a properly cooked JPEG that is nearly ready to transmit. The differences can be seen in the image one screen as well as in print. I hope this answers the questions. The sensors should see the colors the same, how the interpret them is different, would that be a more technically correct statement? And how what is interpreted is processed and saved as a JPEG is obviously going to be different between the cameras as well. I managed to get it a good bit closer to where I want it to be in the second game.
The D4 has does not use the same Color Filter Array (CFA) on top of the sensor as the d3 nor does it use the same tone curves in the JPG engine.
The fact that it does not show colors exactly the same is not surprising and may take quite a bit more than picture control tuning to make them match exactly (although it is doubtful you will need to make them match.)
Hmm... Still haven't gotten my updated shipping schedule. Is anyone else in that boat with Amazon, where they explain they don't know anything and cannot give me a firm date?
