I picked up a mint copy of a M42 Tomioka Chinon 55mm f1.4 lens a little while ago. Problem is my Canon 20d gets a err1 message when i snap a pic. I haven't used a manual lens on this camera for a good while, so i'm wondering if it's an adapter or camera setting problem. You guys happen to know offhand?
Haven't been to this forum in a while. Same guys still around from a couple years ago?
Does your adapter has an AF-confirm chip? That sounds like the likely culprit to me.
I have a good number of alts, and they all work on my 20D. I stopped using AF-confirm adapters on my 20D when I began having severe battry discharge problems - like, mount the lens, snap the shutter, battery is dead.
Does it do it with the lens/adapter off the camera?
I don't recall hearing that there was a micro switch like on the early 1D's, so I doubt that could be it.
There may be a setting in the menu for release without lens.
Camera functions fine with no lens attached. When i put on the adapter only, the I get that err01 message. So it's an adapter issue.
Got no time to play around with that, so that lens will be off to the auction block. Too bad, i was looking forward to checking it out, got some nive reviews.
Check if the adapter is hitting the pins for the connection with the EF lenses in the mount. Perhaps it's shorting out the electrical connection. If so a piece of electrical tape on that part of the adapter would do the trick.
