Mine will arrive tomorrow, I just got the tracking info..... . One thing for sure, I will take the lens cap off when I start taking pictures with it. I am here to enjoy the camera and to actually take pictures with it. I don't want to do any torture test, especially to the extreme like that. Now, the in-camera HDR feature would be something I will try out, for sure.

I learned something today which perhaps all of you already know. The "Blacks" slider in the above is set to 0. Normally it starts at 5. Essentially it means that all values 0-5 will be set to black. If you leave the Blacks at 5, play with all the other sliders all you want, you won't see banding, only a smooth black. i.e., in normal processing with Adobe software, raising shadows will not give you the banding that is hidden in the 0-5 range. Try to brighten shadows by lowering the black point - that is when all hell breaks loose

I will do that. Do you want to come down to Austin? You can try it first hand if you do. I will be shooting with Leon at High Island next week. I believe he will get his as well by then. Do you want to join us?
But where is all the banding
Wait I think you have messed up your post processing..
Why don't you try exposure +4 stops and brighness +1000 and see if you get it a bit better doesn't everyone take shots like that..?
Oh that's right a little thing called correct exposure obviously something a LOT of people seem to struggle with.
Seriously to even think of putting adjustments like that on an exposure from ANY camera is ridiculous at best..taking time to do an 8 sec exposure of a lens cap then push it 4 stops shows just how insane people have become.
On Nikon Sensors Astrophotographers refuse to use them for scope work because they apply pre save noise reduction....personally I'd like to see all the banding guys sell their Canon kit move to Nikon then start complaining about poor lens IQ sloppy AF and whine about terrible shots when you crank noise reduction to 100 when the image turns to liquid plastic.
At least we would be left with guys who know what a correct exposure is..
