Peaking is useful but I still miss with it about 30% of the time. I usually rack the focus to see the plane of focus moving then try to place the subject in it.

That's interesting. The e-mount 50/1.8 on the NEX5 looks to be better at the edges/corners than the a-mount 50/1.8 on the A700 at pretty much all apertures, in those tests.
If I didn't have a crazy awesome modified Contax G 45mm F2 coming in, I would have bought it.

This must be the reason of its unusual length for such a FL.
what's unusual about it? all the other fast wide angle lenses are longer (measured from the film plane to the front element). the zm 25/2.8 is pretty much the same length but it is f/2.8 instead of f/1.8. i'm disappointed it's not smaller too, but i'm not aware of anything that is that can cover an aps-c or larger sensor and has a large aperture. oops, just remembered the new fuji 18/2, that's an exciting and unusual lens, hopefully the poor shots from it are user error. the fuji x100's lens certainly is shorter but it is a fixed lens with a sensor designed explicitly for it.

Is anyone aware of any 28mm or wider rangerfinder lens that does not have corner color or smearing problems on the Nex 7 other than the WATE?
A not-terribly expensive Sigma 19mm has been announced. No idea if it is released yet, and how good it is. But as it is a native E-mount, it must reach a certain level of compatibility IMHO.
Been following this thread with interest as I'm thinking of the Nex-7 myself, exclusively for use with legacy lenses. My own thoughts are all over the place, trying to weigh pros and cons between E-M5, X-Pro 1 and Nex-7. The only thing I'm certain of is that I will no longer put up with the shooting experience I get with my Nex-3. I'm just so very... disconnected from the whole thing. Even going back to my old Olympus E-P1 is a great relief so it's not just the lack of a VF (ergonomics, body&buttons, build, even the sounds it makes...). But then I'd hate what the 2x crop does to my most of my lens collection, so the E-M5 might not be for me regardless of how nice it seems to be. Once again I'm looking to the 7. I'd be giving up my CG 28 and looking for some other 24 or 28 option, but that I can live with.
Anyway, here's hoping the OP will return with some impressions if the Nex-7 is a go, and if anyone here happen to have used any of the 21, 24 or 28mm Olympus OM lenses on Nex-7 and have any info on corners and handling/balance I'd be much obliged.

I'm using the OM 21/3.5 and 28/2. I have not done any scientific testing, but can affirmatively state that there is no purple corners.
Found the 7 in stock on an online store here in Sweden, so went ahead and ordered it yesterday. Will hopefully get it this coming week. Will absolutely get back with some impressions from my point of view if there's interest.
I was very tempted by the E-M5 too, but got cut from my list due to not having focus peaking (that and the 2x crop).
Was using the Samysng 14 and 35 this weekend. Like others have said, dslr lenses don't seem to be an issue on the 7. Corners were fine and no color shift. Of course they aren't small like RF lenses but I think it's been established already that you can't have the best of both worlds with this camera.
When testing lens is it not critical to test at near focus rather than far focus? I.e, my understanding from various threads is that even the symmetric lenses tend to perform with marginal purple corners near infinity. So do the DSLR lenses perform well in this situation? (mostly i'm rather confused by Klaus finding that even with dslr lenses the corners on the nex 7 are somewhat soft but most folks here not noticing the issue in practice).
