I'm trying to decide between the Panasonic GH2 and G3 for RAW stills shooting, mostly things that don't move.
I'm leaning towards the G3 for smaller size and weight (a prime reason for considering this type of camera), but am concerned that its lack of buttons and knobs (and perhaps lack of an EVF sensor) compared to the GH2 will be annoying. I've tried both in a camera store, but it can take more extensive shooting to appreciate handling differences.
From what I can tell, there isn't enough difference in image quality to make a decision on that basis.
I have a g3, never tried the gh2. I got the g3 due to smaller size but still with an evf included (think gx1). I couldn't see spending extra money on the gx1 plus a viewfinder (I like viewfinders) for a lot more money.
G3 handling is fine for me with toddler and nature photography. The lack of the evf sensor remains a little annoying, but I am used to it now. So I wouldn't let that be the main reason to dismiss it. For toddler photography (my girl!) I think the focus mode knob would be wonderful to have as I change this most frequently on the fly, but I would choose size first. I can set the focus mode option with the button on the back of the camera while still looking through the viewfinder which is good enough for me.
