For all practical purposes, focusing this lens on a FF camera is a non-issue. Select an aperture of f:5.6, turn the focus ring all the way to infinity, pull back a fraction, and you are set. Shoot what you will, everything will be in focus, from roughly 5', or 1.5m, to infinity. That is the point-and-shoot mode of the ZE 21.
That discription is just silly... B&H wrote:

A super wide lens that can close in just over 8". It's non-reflecting and distortion-free, and so outputs images with contrast and color.

Congratulations! Thanks my all time favorite landscape lens on the 1Ds III. You'll be blown away by the edge sharpness. Just setup a good tripod and ball head and you're good to go.
It is the airplane cockpit, 5th one into the slideshow. This used to get posted all over here but I think when he left he blew out all of his posts first.

any idea whether Lightroom would do an equally adequate job of dealing with the distortion as PTLens? (i've seen examples of the latter, but not the former)
would love to just plug in RAWs into one program (LR) & not change up the workflow at all..

atran's right; it does not correct mustache distortions unless you've downloaded and installed (or created) a custom profile specifically for that lens and your camera. There's no tools in any app I'm aware of which will allow one to correct for mustache distortions interactively. Even DXO's tools don't IIRC - and it's probably the best app for such things.
Okay - I'm now confused. Here are two identical pics. 5D with 21ZE.First is straight from the camera - resized, The second had "Enable Profile Corrections" ticked in LR3 - then resized. To my eyes the mustache distortion has been corrected. Am I wrong??

There are a couple of LCP entries for the Zeiss 21 on a couple of different bodies but creating a profile yourself is a major pain in the butt! Major!
Once obtained or created they can be applied in Photoshop through the Lens Correction plug-in, In ACR, or in Lightroom since version 3. And batch corrections can be applied in all three of those applications although batching is easiest in ACR 1st, LR 2nd and PS 3rd.
Here's what the LCP Downloader looks like:...Show more →
thanks for the informative post - very helpful.
correct me if i'm misunderstanding your post a bit, but are you suggesting that creating a custom profile for my particular 21ZE lens will work better than simply using the existing Zeiss 21mm profile in Lightroom?
i've had pretty good experiences with all of the existing Canon lens profiles in Lightroom so far, without having to create my own profiles.. is there perhaps more sample variation in terms of produced mustache distortion with diff copies of the Zeiss 21mm than a typical Canon L lens?

Unless you have a very specific architectural need, I really don't think a bit of distortion is that big of a deal. It's part of the signature of the lens!

Thanks for that flash back! I loved looking at Guy's old Z21 Images!
If you are doing natural landscapes in the real world the "mustache" thing just never comes up as a concern.
For architecture I wonder if an "open source" profile has been made available? Why don't we share the burden and then deposit the profile under the GPL?
