Utah fell to Nebraska (197.60-197.45) in a high-scoring Senior-Night meet that marked the end of the regular home season. Utah set a new NCAA season attendance record with an average of 14,352 per home meet this season. Here are 9 photos from the meet (larger gallery here). C&C welcome.
nice work once again Russ, I really like #4 with the eye contact and #8 fr the action. Seems like the season just got started though. Probebly not for you however.
Jeff: Right? I can't believe it's over. But we Utah gym fans don't have to suffer withdrawal quite yet as the Pac-12 Championship and regional meets will be held here. Thanks for your comment.
It always strikes me how calm the faces of these gymnasts look while moving through their routines. Pretty sure that if it were me in #8 (my fave here), my face would be just a *tad* more freaked.
Nice little set, Russ- I bet you're looking forward to the intensity of the final meets. Thanks for sharing!
Russ....get the hammer out because you nailed these. For #8....is the reason the bar is tilting down to the right because your horizon wold be on the gymnast??
Tom: Yeah, you're right. The only time I see 'freaked' faces consistently is on the release moves on bars where they're flipping 360 degrees then coming back and catching the bar. They all look a wee bit tense on the way back to the catch (and if you've ever seen how hard they belly flop the mat when they miss, well, the facial expression is understandable!). Thanks for your comment, and see #11 below for another stroll in the park.
Thank you, Grant.
Thanks, Ted. Looking forward to more of your lacrosse.
Bret: Much appreciated.
Hey Frank, thanks. The bars always create illusion problems because although they are parallel to the floor, something about the angle from which I shoot puts them on a bit of a diagonal relative to the vertical posts in the stands, which is what I've used for my 'horizon.'
12. The bittersweet moment of taking in all of it (hyped introductions, rabid crowd, screaming adoration) for the very last time for the three seniors.
wow another great set Russ!! congrats..
favs, 2,4,5,6,7....
love the creamy back grounds (4,7)
8.. fannntassstic. love these type shots.. still amazes me when you can get one..
shame the season is coming to an end.. only a few meets left
Mike, thanks for the feedback. I suppose your gym work is winding down as well. Crazy.
Hey Bryan, thanks. Yeah, the fan support is incredible. Makes all the difference in the world.
Gray and Ronnie: Thank you.
Andy: You're right, that's a tough loss, but Utah was behind from the first rotation so I suppose it didn't come as a surprise. Thanks for your comment.
Sorry I'm late to the party Russ but I was actually shooting gymnastics the past few days rather than doing so vicariously through your posts. Man, is it ever hard.
I'll try not to be too redundant but #8 is amazing and Corrie's smiles are fantastic.
I'm glad there will be at least two more opportunities to see your posts before the season ends. It's far too short.
Another stunning set overall. My buttermaker and camera must be defective because they sure don't know how to make pictures like this.
