Was I close or was I close with my guess of $2900? I'll attribute the extra $48 to the metal lens cap, something I could surely be excused for thinking Zeiss would never do!
There's a press release with large photos here. (The website doesn't allow a direct link, but you're two clicks away from it.)
More interestingly, the new brochure here includes the lens, showing five anomalous partial dispersion elements and two aspherical elements, including, as I suspected, one near the front. Impressive, and I'm not just talking about my guessing.
Yet more interestingly, here is the data sheet with MTF curves, etc.
And below is my usual to-scale comparison with likely competitors, this time aligned to the focal plane (sensor), taking into account the different Canon and Nikon flange distances. The new Zeiss is substantially smaller and lighter than I expected, particularly in the F-mount version.

I do not know what the "recommended price" is for the other Zeiss lenses, so it is a bit hard for me to judge what this "recommended price" should translate to, in practice. Does anyone have an idea ?

I'm unsure as to what this will translate to for the 15/2.8 but the 35/1.4 (looked it up) has an MSRP of $2395 and retails for $1,850. So maybe the 15/2.8 could retail for $2500? Which would be much closer to the retail price of $2199 for the Canon 14/2.8MKII.
Oddly enough the MTF graph on Lloyd's blog show a different result for all aperture. Hmmmm.
The samples look phenomenal from Lloyd. Oddly enough his shots with the super wide look way more inspired than his other photos with longer lenses. The color saturation of the lens looks amazing too.

I don't think Lloyd claims to be a professional photographer (or a pro cyclist). He just writes about those topics fairly proficiently (as evidenced by the fact that lots of people voluntarily pay him for his thoughts!). Pro photogs are taking pictures and pro cyclists are training and racing -- not reviewing tools. Lloyd is a tool reviewer and a pretty good one in my opinion.

Not satisfied with the 1.4/35 or do you mean a 1.2/35?
I love my 1.4/35, but I would be really interested to see a flagship Zeiss lens that's between 35mm and 50mm and super ,super fast. Ideally it should be at least f1!

I agree, almost all lens reviews are meaningless chart measurements, he does really interesting real life testing and comparisons taking into account what really matters to most photog.

I like everything but the fixed hood & weight - looks like a premium landscape & 2.8 astro lens. The creative possibilities with such a lens are endless!
There should be some on the used market in about a year!
