Picked up a used Manfrotto 3265 Pistol Grip Head and it seemed to hold solidly (although I didn't have tripod or camera with me at the time). After getting it home, connecting it to my 055MF3 tripod and camera/lens combo weighing just under 3 lb (the head is rated at 5.5 lb), the head slips slightly after being "locked" into place.
Adjusting the tension control had no effect. Then I read a review of the same head described with the same problem I have. The reviewer said after tightening a screw, everything worked rock solid.
Would anyone know what screw he might have been referring to? Allen screw? Which one, none seemed particularly loose?
It's a tiny allen screw, on the side opposite to the squeeze lever, just above the base. For years mine worked fine then I couldn't adjust it. I sent it in for repair at Bogen. There are directions for cleaning, etc., out there on the web. It came back fine from Bogen but has begun to be a little erratic again.
My Dynatran head is a carbon copy, and it's the shiny silver setscrew where the grip widens into the base. Look closely, it's an allen screw. Unfortunately, I can't remember the size.
