Finally, a day race. Almost didn't know how to shoot. These are from the Cherokee Speedway, March Madness $15,000 to win.

There were 12 photographers in turns 1&2 (there's no fence there) so I took my ladder down to turns 3&4 and shot from there. I figured why take the same shot as all the rest.
Thanks for looking, C&C welcomed!

That's a good point. But you don't necessarily have to be standing next to a guy to get the same shots he/she gets. You are very good at the panned shot of the car sliding through the curve but I would challenge you to start looking beyond that and expand your horizons.

1. Try a different angle every trip to the track.

2. Get up close and personal.

3. Show the viewer some behind the scenes stuff.

4. Widen out to show the atmosphere.

5. Look for something a little artsy.

6. And look for a photo where no one else is looking.

Don't get me wrong. You are doing fine the way you are. I just want to give you some food for thought for your upcoming season and maybe push you to look a little harder for something different every time you go out to shoot.

Good luck,
Marty

Shows you what I know about racing... I opened up this thread hoping to see women in their 70s posing in front of the camera.

@Marty - Thanks, I need to get pushed! I have gone out and climbed hills, gotten on top of the flag stand, laid in the dirt to get the under car shot. But when I look at my shots I just am not catching what I am wanting to and they are mediocre at best. I am still trying and thank you. (btw, love your shots)

@ACNYPhoto - We were having heavy clouds passing over the sun, some times it was deep shadows and then the very next instance bright sunshine. I should have been quicker on changing my camera set up for sure.

@Paul - I just love it! One day, after shooting some of the kid's sports and they turn out at least half way decent I will have something for you to comment on. I really like your critiques and know they are extremely helpful.

Marty: very good advice as it is too easy to go with the crowd.

@ Marty I agree 100%. I'd love to get down to GA some day to shoot your flavor of dirt track racing. I'm from PA/MD and we have a wealth of tracks, but the Southern tracks seem like a completely different world from ours.
