p.1 #1 · Shrine of the Bab

This is theShrine of the Bab in Haifa, Israel. The Bab was the first prophet of the B'hai faith and this and the surrounding gardens are his mausoleum. The B'hai Faith has its international headquarters in Haifa, I hope you like the photo!

Very nice, Endre.

For educational purposes, may I ask how much cropping was done here and what your focal point was? (meaning what spot (s) did the little red canon boxes fall on for focus! I KNOW that the whole image is the focal point! ) It's a very tall and deep shot to get in focus, I would guess!

Thanks!

Thanks, Peter. I'm glad you like it! It's an amazingly beautiful setting sort of plunked into the middle of the city. It's kind of hard to get a good shot of it without a more modern building in the frame.

All the best,

Endre

Thanks, Tim, my friend! I'm delighted that you like it!

There is almost no cropping to this shot. I looked at the RAW image and notice that I cropped out one of the fence rails on the right and a correspondingly small amount on top. i used my 28 - 70 lens and shot it from across the street so that the bottom of the frame is the bottom of the image. I wish I had been able to use my tripod and really set it up even better but I had a wife and two impatient children with me and they wouldn't have stood for me futzing around with a tripod. so it was a hand-held and framed shot. i also didn't have time to mess with the focus point so I'm certain that it was in the center of the shot. When one is far enough away from a large object (scene) like this, the exact focus point isn't all that important.

Warm regards,

Endre

Thank you, Endre!
I'm happy to know my silent guess was correct here! Distance from the subject seems to have been key.

Great shot of the Shrine of the Bab, Strad. Have you been able to post any of your other shots of these Baha'i Holy Sites? If so, any way of getting the link(s)?

Very nice. I like the symmetry. Only change I would make is a very slight rotation CCW. To me it is just a little clockwise of vertical.

Thank you, Michael. I'm really glad you like it! Unfortunately, we actually didn't spend enough time there. When we were at the shrine it wasn't yet open for the day and my family wanted to other things. More photos will have to wait for a subsequent trip someday. Here. is the link to the color version of this: http://endre-balogh.artistwebsites.com/featured/bahai-temple-in-haifa-endre-balogh.html I hope that is some small consolation.

Thanks, Jim. I'm glad you like it.

I'm usually very good about making sure that things are straight but since i didn't remember checking this to make sure, you comment started me wondering if it was straight or not. It looks OK to me but just for the record, I put a vertical guide on it that went right from the tip of the point at the top of the shrine straight down exactly center through everything all the way to the bottom. I was right. It's as perfectly vertical as it can be.

All best wishes,

Endre
