p.1 #1 · Salton Sea Sandhill Cranes

Since we have a Salton Sea theme going this week, I'll add two from a stormy day. I was ready to leave after heavy cloud cover made it too dark for decent shots of the flying birds. However, after the sun went down, the sky lit up, back-lighting the cranes as they returned to overnight in their roosting ponds.

1. Against the storm clouds.

2. Just before dark, the cranes glide down to the ponds, with the Santa Rosa Mountains in the background.

Looking at #1, I can almost hear their "gar-oo-oo" flight call that echos their genus name - Grus.

John, I really like the silhouettes and formation in the first image. Great sky color too.
The second images looks very cool too. You might wanna crop a slice from the top and the left side.

An excellent pair.
The first image is absolutely superb! Separation between birds, and one is even squawking. Plus the color.

Gotta love those Sandhill silhouettes, John. And that first one is a print-and-framer. I like the different wing positions. Good stuff!
