I do have an a900, but I haven't considered converting the 45. It was purchased for use on the NEX and while I really like the color and contrast, I'm not thrilled with the bokeh. So far, the only MC/MD lens I've used that makes me want to convert it to alpha is the Rokkor 50/1.4.
And, yes, very hard to find a damaged 40/2. The 24/2.8 would be easier, and give you roughly the same size, but a significantly shorter throw on the focus, if I'm remembering correctly.

i really want to convert an MC PG 50/1.4, need to get a second one though so i can keep one for film. other rokkors that merit converting (imnsho): 24/2.8, 28/2, 50/1.2, 55/1.7, 58/1.2 (duh), and 135/2.8. also probably the 21/2.8, 85/1.7, 100/2, 135/2, and 400/5.6, but i have never shot with them.

this is why the 50/1.8 is perfect – uber cheap, same size as the 40/2 (roughly), but with a (slightly) longer focus throw.

There is one large spring around the lens, the function of which was not clear to me. It is not dangerous for the elements as long as you don't do fancy things, and it doesn't jump away either. Nothing spectacular.

The 135/2 is high on my list, but, man, is it hard to find. The Soligor 135/1.8 comes up more often.

I'm sure you're right, but I have zero experience with the 50/1.8. Never even seen one in person (that I recognized as such, anyway).

I've seen it in shops but never thought of buying it, so far. It is so ordinary that it is not alt enough for many of us here, who are spoiled by faster or otherwise more exotic lenses.

it was my 1st alt on digital. took me a while to realize I could use my old rokkors and then any other lens I wanted. I was about to sell it, maybe I'll hold on to it now to use as a donor body.
