p.1 #1 · videographer- this is interesting

I got an email from one of my brides today telling me they're using this
service. It's interesting and I hadn't seen it before. Wondering how this
will change the guests behavior.

Friggin' GENIUS.. The company makes money just from editing. They don't have to show up to shoot. I love that idea. I may actually do this on my own. I'll just buy 10 flip cameras and edit them all together for $500. I've done tons of video editing in the past. This is a great idea.

Interesting business model. I cannot imagine how horrendous it must be to try and pull something decent out of guest iphone footage though, just imagine trying to make a wedding album out of guests' iphone pics and then multiple that by the extra it takes to edit video.

Yeah, but if the results are disappointing, they can always point to / blame the quality of the source images.

And not only that but the video looks like it would be documentary style like Cloverfield or Blair Witch. It's an interesting dynamic and will definitely be profitable.

Very interesting...

I do some videography/photography for an AWESOME DJ company in the Twin Cities. They threw a dance party at the State Fair last summer and asked me if I could record and edit some video, but I already had a wedding that day. They ended up providing me with video from a few DSLR cameras they had floating around and in the crowd.

It was actually REALLY fun to edit, and they loved the final products.
There are certain weddings where I could see this working really well, and some where it would bomb big time.

Could be a good idea, probably a bad idea. Hmm.

I just keep thinking of a video equivalent of the 'disposable camera on every table' and how well that idea usually went.

My take on this is, those videos look more fun and actually better than most videographers work I have seen. I think it is genius, most guest are taking video and photos with their iphones anyways.

OMG, watching this makes me sick. I cant see any couple cherishing something like this over what a true professional can do. I do both photo and video, and even editing another professionals video work frustrates the hell out of me.

Oh come on, it's "from $99" - if that's someone's budget for wedding video they're not hiring a pro anyway, they're doing it as a cute additional extra of their day.

There's plenty of challengers to the industry, but this is just jumping at shadows.

I think some of you are missing the point. People are taking photos and videos with their iPhones any ways, someone was just smart enough to capitalize on it. I can't see how this will make more uncle bobs then there is now. These videos will probably be more personal and fun to the client.

+1 Ryan, I actually think it's both clever and a great idea, nothing we say or do is going to STOP the world and his wife having a phone camera at a wedding, at least this way the couple get something nice out of it rather than than a facebook gallery at best or random clutter on a relative's harddrive most probably.

You guys don't think that if the guests KNOW that their footage is being used to put together a video for the couple that they won't be more aggressive in their pursuit of capturing the day ?

I know I would because now there is some incentive to do that knowing MY footage will be viewed by the couple....MY footage !!! "Yeah, im going to get up on that altar/gazebo, stand in the aisle, shoot right next to the paid photographer because MY footage is being used to give to the couple.....it's only human nature...

Honestly, I can not see someone who has any sort of manners or common sense to just stand in the aisle or at the altar. But I guess this goes down to how the bride and groom handle their request for video.

I think as long as your family and friends aren't idiots... you'd be fine.

This is a brilliant idea. The magic for this is in the editing. Rather than a bunch of raw cellphone clips randomly strewn about on facebook, you can take all the video and craft a nice little story. There are software solutions to help with the shakiness of small handheld camera video, the image can also be cleaned up since reception stuff will be grainy. With multiple cameras you'll get lot of different angles, people very close to the bride/groom will be shooting so there will likely be more intimate moments and more comedy. It won't be 5d2 on a steadycam quality, but it will be entertaining. I have a full video editing suite, I'm going to look into doing this myself.

OMG this is awful. They're basically telling all the guests to play photographer all day and night.
