I have a 9800 in my studio but I want to add a desktop at home that I can use without going into the office. Does anyone have both? How does the print quality of the 3880 compare to the 9800?
it is good printer, but i think you should rather take some 4xxx serie. Once you roll inks once through it pays the difference in purchase price and there is much more flexibility with 4xxx

that he didn't wrote as requirement, but 3880 is about same size as 4xxx. maybe 10cm thinner? If on 4880 is not mounted the canvas holder and tray is collapsed it will not be really much bigger and you need lot of space to pull the tray anyway.
Food for thought. Since you're already running a 9800, why not try and find a used 4800? My thinking is that since both printers use the same head and Ultrachrome K3 inkset (icc profiles can also be easily shared) you'll get more consistent output (print match) between the two printers. It's just too bad that the smaller 4800 printer doesn't use the same cartridges as the 9800.
Yes, desktop space is very limited in home office. I didn't want to go the used route so that left the 4900 as the alternative. The 4900 is huge compared to the 3880 and weighs 115lb! I mainly print B&W so I don't think there will be much print difference between the 9800 and 3880 in B&W.

Had the same problem so when I got my 4800 I also bought the stand Epson makes for it. Foot print is the same as the 4800 there is good storage for supplies in it and its on wheels makeing it easy to move around to access and handle roll paper. No desk space required just a bit of floor space.
