p.1 #1 · which one would you guys choose? (1ds mark ii)
someone is selling a 1ds mark ii with 190k shutter for $1200 and another one that needs shutter replacement for $700 (yes 1Ds mark ii not 1D mark ii).
I've never really used canon before but wanted to try it. How much does the shutter replacement cost and what's the turn around time? Canon would still do it even though I don't have warranty right (i guess obviously since most high count bodies will be out of warranty anyway).
If it doesn't cost $500 I think it would be wiser to choose the one that needs shutter replacement and have it replaced.
Let me know how much I should expect to spend on shutter replacement and maybe overall check up if that would cost extra.

I'd hesitate to buy a camera that needs repairs, unless I knew and trusted the source. What's the deal for returning the camera, or sharing costs, if it turns out to need more than just a shutter replacement?

I think they're up to $400 or something, but plan on spending the full $500. You'll have a new shutter, canon can look at it, clean it, and if there's anything else you want fixed now is the time..

Get the one that needs a shutter. The 190K shutter could die 2 days after you get anyway, but a new one will have a warranty (and will last much longer)
