Ahh, DigitalRev, the best thing on youtube.

Looks chunky, more so than the G11 my dad has.

Thanks for posting. That was well done, fun, and informative...

The comment made by the photographer at the end was a suitable summary.....

....... "I'll take a Fuji"....

It seemed a better travelog of Hong Kong (Tokyo?) than a camera review but you did get to see it in action for street photography. (My wife wants the 3D toilet seat ) The few bits of information were positive, the IS worked very well for video, the IQ was better than the competition at first glance. But the conclusion was typical: "Never mind performance it looks chunky and it doesn't have interchangeable lenses". I probably wouldn't have watched it if it wasn't the "first ever".

I have a love/hate affair with DigitalRev. Sometimes they put out some valuable info and sometimes it just a painful experience. This one is painful and everything of substance could have been condensed into about 30 seconds or less of video. Our host loves to hear himself talk and is really amazed at himself and how smart and cute he can be, unfortunately only in his own mind.

IMO I believe Canon did OK with the G1X. Like most Canon products it has stupid compromises but having a Fuji X100 as my carry around they are of similar size. Nice construction, excellent video, very good ISO performance, excellent resolution, reasonable street price. Not bad, not bad at all. I think it will be quite popular.

Kai enjoys acting and being an entertainer. His Billingham video actually was both informative and mildly entertaining in a geeky way. He had a bad day on this one. Maybe too early in the morning. However, I think the points of his review were spot on, albeit with a rambling and goofy delivery. With that said, there are many far more terrible reviews on YouTube...

But, yeah, that is one chunky camera. I'd rather have a Rebel as it's not that much larger. Of course, maybe chunky cameras are a trend. The new Pentax EVIL sure is chunky.

I love Kai and Locke. Sure, the reviews aren't thorough, but they are usually interesting.

The viewfinder is a disappointment. Hopefully the next version will have a nice EVF. The styling reminds me of a gun.

I love Kai -- a fun guy! But he did have a rough go on this review. I was disappointed, after all the slack he's cut some of the M43 cameras. Oh well, I got to see the G-1911 in action!

Thumbs down on ever putting an EVF on the G-series.

I think his review this time was very sloppy and poppy. I got the camera on 8-2 and on my blog:

www.focusfoto.dk/blog

you can find some footage made with the camera. I love the IS, it nearly turns it into a steadycam

Yes, I agree. He points out the viewfinder and never uses it to take a shot. Better to have a viewfinder than none, which is what some cameras offer.

Clunky, by how many ounces and what?

G12 = 112 x 76 x 48 mm Weight 401g
G1x = 116.7 x 80.5 x 64.7 mm Weight 534g
+4.7mm x +4.5mm x 16.7mm 133g

4.5 mm = 0.177165 "
16.7 mm = 0.657480 "
133g g = 4.69143 oz

I kind of expected it to be bigger and heavier, it has a bigger lens and sensor. Nothing amazing or controversial in the obvious. Compact, unobtrusive travel camera anyone? $800

G1x does not replace the G12 as some reviewers seem to assume. It's a camera on it's own. G12 is still in production. The only way I'd see that changing is if Canon drops the G## series altogether? I'm not sure that's going to happen with the large difference in price and electronics?

FUJI fixed 35mm $1200 did I get that right?
