Absolute Perfection.
Gitzo introduces the new Systematic tripod range.
Systematic is Gitzo’s top of the range tripod family, the choice of exacting professional photographers who use long lenses and heavy cameras. Not only are Systematic Gitzo’s strongest and most stable tripods, they’re also modular, with a top casting element that opens and closes to allow each tripod to be configured with a flat disk, geared or sliding centre column, video half-ball adaptor, levelling unit or other specialised centre component.
Now, Systematic has been refined, with significant improvements across strength, stability and rigidity; safety and security; set-up speed, ease of use and ergonomics. New construction and bonding techniques have almost doubled maximum payloads by distributing weight more efficiently to the 6X carbon fibre legs, which also feature the G-Lock system for greater power and ease of leg section locking.

After celebrating in 2007 the 90th anniversary, Gitzo continues to recall the golden ages of photography with an exclusive celebratory Vintage collection. This unique collection consists of two kits and it is dedicated to really affectionate photographers. It is a genuine replica of Gitzo Seventies supports, that in those days, like today the Gitzo 6X carbon fiber tripods, represented the cutting edge and most advanced supports in the market.

how interesting: a pretty well devised "non admission of fault fix" on the systematic head/platform in 2 parts. they are improvements
1- the ratcheting handle for the platform cinch (does make it easier for those who don't check their gear before use)
2- the push button release for the platform
The 6.19 pounds must be a shipping weight. If you work your way in to the pdf of the catalog for the new Systematic series, the weight for the GT3542LS is listed as 4.3 pounds. So yes an increase, but more within reason. Improvements in strength and durability and stiffness might justify the weight gain.
I have moved to Really Right Stuff tripods for purchases, so I doubt I will consider any of these new offerings, all though I might be able to make use of the largest Series 5 in the future.

You're absolutely right there! I'm not sure about that lever handle though, a clumsy idiot like me might snag that in the bag or out of it.
The one thing I like is the Benro-like angle locks; now you can use them with gloves on.
I'm glad I got my 3541LS over a year ago. The 3542LS is 13% heavier with the increased max load spec., or did some of that weight come from the proper base locking system? Whatever the 3541 is total overkill for my cameras already so I've no need for the new version.

There is an inherit problem in attempting to idiot proof a product, the ability of idiots to find new ways to be themselves.
Series 2 systematic tripods look great. I wonder how stable the Series 5 6-section tripod is... look how short each section is . Or the S5 giant... that's the hiker's dream. Bring that and a tarp and you won't need to carry a tent .
Hmm, that Vintage Series 2 looks familiar. In fact, it looks like my current tripod, a Reporter 224 that I bought 30 years ago! Wonder if some parts are interchangeable. The 2-section telescoping column is really handy, and I use it all the time. With studio flash, tripod vibration is a non-issue.
I downloaded the new catalogue. And their new specs for max load rating on their Systematic tripods is just ridiculous. My series 5 Systematic 5541 LS has a 25 kg load rating. Suddenly all their new series 2 tripods also have 25 kg load ratings They also have the same load rating on series 2, series 3 and series 4 tripods.
They also write that the series 2 are perfect for 200mm lenses. Series 3 are perfect for 400mm lenses. Series 4 are perfect for 600mm lenses. But all series have the same max load spec
