Has anyone ran into problems with the Tamron SP DI 90mm macro suddenly losing it's AF ability on a D80? I've tried everything, witching from AF to manual to AF again, removed the lens, shot down the camera (batteries removed), installed the lens again, put it back in AF mode, turned the camera back on and still no AF. It works find in manual mode but the viewfinder for the D80 sucks for manual focus, there is thing to let you know you are in focus unlike the older cameras pre AF. Any help is appreciated as I want to start shooting macro again but I need the AF.
Yes mine did that before I sold it. I think it was a belt or something that had snapped inside the lens. I think it was like a $5-10 part that cost $200 to repair
I rarely use AF when doing macro and wouldn't of worried about it if I wasn't selling it. If the repair costs more than half the replacement I'd consider buying a new lens. I can certainly recommend the new Tamron 60f2.
problem is I bought it 5 years ago and I have no idea where I bought it. It was online I know that, I called B&H and Ritz which is where I though I bought it from and no luck.
Maybe try doing a keyword search in your email for the confirmation notices?
I have the same camera and lens, the only time I use AF is outside of macro work with the limiter engaged. Otherwise the AF hunting on this lens (my copy at least) is the most ridiculous thing I've ever encountered, most of the time fully extending and back again before it gives up - even when assisted by an SB-600.
I had the same hunting issues. One reason I don't care for Tamron products. The images were VERY sharp though. And hay look at that I searched my yahoo mail and fount the receipt from B&H!

Same here. It hunts quite a bit, less so on the D3s than on the D300 or D80 before it. Thankfully it has a decent enough MF ring.
