p.1 #1 · Nikon TC-20E III Question

Forgive this silly newbie question, but this is the first teleconverter I've ever owned. I just received the Nikon TC-20E III today and when I was taking it out of the box I could hear/feel a piece moving inside the assembly. Upon closer inspection, once I remove the cap from the element, I can see a piece moving on an internal track.

First question...I'm assuming this is normal?
Second question...what is the part that i moving and why does it move freely?

Don't know what the part is, or why, but it's normal.

Cool, thanks for the quick reply guys. If anyone actually knows what that part is, I'd be curious to just understand it's purpose.

It's the aperture actuation lever - it's just a pass through mechanism on bearings so it has to be loose.

No worries, just sounds bad. If you can't hear it rattling something's wrong . . . .

Thanks jhinkey! Definitely seemed odd to hear moving parts in there at first
Looking forward to taking it out for some shooting!
