The sky here has been a lovely shade of galvanized iron grey for the past week, making it unrewarding to get out and shoot. Couldn't resist any more today. As you can see, there's absolutely no light moving anywhere. Not a great shot - just keeping my hand in the forum.

Beautiful feather detail in the face. I’m surprised you did not get more DOF for the belly to be sharp at f8. Soft light can be very nice as shown in your photo.
Cardinals are one of my favorite birds and especially the female. As you know, you have to work with the the available light and under the lighting conditions, an excellent capture!!
I'd like to thank everyone who looked and especially those who commented for their encouragement. Getting back to birds has caused an enormous pile of out of focus, poorly framed, and otherwise useless pixels to spill out of my camera. But I sure am having fun -
