There are a lot of things about this shot to enjoy. The composition is excellent, though a little more space around the lily might improve it. Just out of curiosity, how accurate is the color of the water? It looks very aquamarine to me -
Thank you for the feedback, David. I didn't do any cropping around the lilies, so I would have to artificially add more space. Basically, I bumped up the saturation to bring out the color in the leaves, and the water turned the aquamarine that you see. In reality, the water was duller looking than above.
How sophisticated a post-processor do you consider yourself to be? There may be ways to enhance the color in the lilies without making the water go green depending on your skills and the software you're using. Post processing is a critical step in creating an image, so you're not going to "Photoshop" it - you're going to try to optimize what you captured in the camera. You've got a great beginning for a nice shot here -
I don't consider myself a sophisticated a post-processor at all. Most of what I've done has involved experimenting with RAW images in Apple Aperture. Any suggestions on how I can better myself in this area? Can you recommend any books, websites, or other software packages I should looks at?
Nice shot, Bill. I'm a PS amateur, but what I would do is select the water, then invert the selection so that the lilies are selected. Now you can play with the saturation, etc. of just the lilies without changing the water.

Bill,
What Ernie said... +1.
Glad to hear you're shooting in RAW. It will give you the most to work with. PP is a lttle confusing at forst, just stick with it. You'll get lots of support from the forum members.

Very nice colors and comps in this one Bill.
Not sure sure on sources of advice for Apple aperture but maybe a web search on processing tips might come up with something such as at http://www.apple.com/aperture/how-to/
