p.2 #1 · Why did Canon ever produce the lack-luster 5D MKII?

My 5D II doesn't squeak, creak or moan.

And I have an admission to make. I regularly use the outer AF points, even though they apparently don't work at all and are there for show.

Since we're making confessions here I must say I occasionally take my 5DMKll in place of my 1DMKlV when only one bod is a must

This must be an early consequence of global warming. Water levels are rising and all of the trolls are coming out from under their bridges.

Bravo! I too love the 5D II. For action shots I use
1D 4. Why buy Nikon's over-priced lenses?

Poor IQ of zooms versus primes, distortion, slow glass, prices too high, sync speeds.

I am sure we will see this post again in a couple of years with the D800 replacing the 5D mk ii.

I just can't wait until the 5d II is the "classic" and we have to come up with a new name for the original 5d.

[Ralph Conway]I hate the black net in the BG.

You are alright Ralph

dan101 - No worry, I'll have forgotten all of this in a couple days, in a couple years I won't remember myself.

I really wouldn't mind doing some long term testing on those new Canon telephotos. I did think the Nikon glass was expensive until I priced the new Canon 400/2.8, ouch! Should you want to provide me with one I'd take real good care of it.

Very good thoughts Taoguy. I also own a bunch of Canon and Nikon equipment and you can sum up my thoughts as follows, that old 5D2 takes one hell of a picture, did for the last several years and will be many more to come.

I am an old guy and shake my head when the kids complain about today's DSLRs. The saddest part is when they claim ability is 95% photographer and 5% camera. Shoot a wedding, a BIF or a sporting event with a manual camera and film and show us all how talented you really are. No scanning or PP allowed either.

Seems to me you are, too. Thank you for this thread. Its a pleasure to meet people who do not just whine all time about worse outer AF points.

Beer is a good idea. I will have a last one before I go to bed.

I hear ya! Once I got fairly good at pre focusing to a set point, the dang racer would take a different line. BIF were almost nonexistent! I never figured out how to really nail the sky focusing on s certain point. Besides all of that you didn't know what your pics looked liked until you got back to the darkroom.

It wasn't long ago that people were screaming that the 1D's mk2 was still not going to cut it as a digital camera would need 50 megapixels just to be even with 35mm film. Usually from people who read as such in a magazine rather than checking with their own eyes.

Within a short time we had 21 megapixel cameras and people were then screaming that the megapixels were just too much for the lenses.

However i do have an issue with the 5Dmk2 and that is the banding issues that some deny yet really are there above 1600 iso. Perhaps that is a problem that varies from camera to camera given the range of opinions on it.

I am hoping for serious low light capabilities with the mk3.

Nearly every DSLR produced in the last 5-7 years takes really good photos.

Probably the sanest statement I've seen recently on this forum.

True, ... if the photographer makes really good photos. But we get your point and agree the photos are mostly techncially very good.
