It is and I've installed it. It turns the Raw button into a programmable one like the Fn button. It appears to do nothing for the "Orb" "Problem", something that concerns me as much as the price of crabmeat in Bulgaria.

Sorry, but the ORB problem is very real, and utterly ruins this amazing camera.
Really only ruins it for those who enjoy taking night cityscape shots, and then only for those who obsess over the details of their photos.
I would wager a majority of X10 users 1) aren't spending much time doing night cityscape shooting (not that theres anything wrong with enjoying it) and 2) aren't spending time looking for issues or discussing it on forums.
Most buyers are simply busy enjoying the camera and taking happy snaps and don't have a clue what an Orb is nor would they really care enough to discuss one.
Thats the difference between an enthusiast who frequent gear forums and the typical photographer
One will take a photo, usually with no one in it, then come home, look at it 100% and analyze it.
The other will have friends or family pose for a photo, give little to no regard for the background, post it to Facebook and share it with friends at 800 pixels wide or less, not analyzing high ISO noise, or orbs etc, but tagging friends in the photo.
I'm not suggesting FM members have no friends, or that there is anything wrong with wanting high image quality in all conditions, but simply that we on the alt forum, and forums in general, are our own little world and things that "ruin" a camera for us won't even be noticed by 99% of buyers.
Shocking though they made a customizable RAW button on the X10 and didn't add that to the X100 F/W though!
Out of curiosity as well Ratty, if that image didn't have orbs, what would change about it ?
I'm not passing judgement of if its "good" or "bad" photography, but simply what the orbs changed ?
Did you have a client fire you over it ?
Did you lose some huge sale where the image was going to be used in a major ad campaign because the art director found it unsuitable ?
Did any non-photographer friends or family laugh or ridicule you over it ?
Did you have plans to make that image a 40x60" print over your couch and now you can't ?
I see the image as a night shot of a skyline. Nothing really unique going in it, nothing that you could shoot again, and nothing that you couldn't of done with any other camera.
The fact it has little orbs in it simply doesn't change my opinion of it in any way. I mean that white car could be said to be as much of an issue as the orbs.
Who's really going to look at your image and want to spend time analyzing the street lights for orbs ?

...
Completely agree.
I've owned the X10 for about a month now, I'm thoroughly enjoying it and I've yet to see a single orb.
I often head out with my X10 plus my 5d with a couple of primes (C/Y 50 1.7 and CZJ 35 f/2.4).
Its a great combo - X10 for detail shots where I want everything in focus and the 5d for shots where I want more subject isolation.
That's one reason I love this forum, it doesn't get sucked into nearly the degree of fixation on silly flaws that rarely matter; dpreview is the master of that.

This shot CLEARLY shows how defective the sensor is in this camera. I have taken this same image with a previously owned S205EXR (no problems), with an F70EXR (again, no problems), with my wife's old F10 (yet again, no problems) and with my X100 ( still no problems; get the trend?) Now however, my brand new $600 camera simply CANNOT take that image. My new X10 is throughly trashed by a 6 year old F10 or 4 year old F70EXR. THAT is my problem. There WILL BE times when I am out with my X10 and WANT to capture an image. Do you think that the X10 is a reliable camera now? Do you think that this was $600 well spent? Actually, it cost me $650 here in China.
The problem with this is that **I** am unhappy with the images this camera produces. That my wife or friends like it is of NO consequence to me. I am my harshest critic and I can clearly see, even if you cannot, that with the X10, my chances of producing crap are far far higher than with ANY camera I have ever owned.
And I got to pay $650 for it. And here in China, it is NOT returnable.

This is such a disingenuous comment! You dont need to analyze the street lights for ORBS. They frick'en jump off the screen at you!! Come on! Do you have any shame at all? If you can't spot the ORBS in 100 milliseconds then your observational skills are as good as Fujifilm's sensor design skills, i.e., not all that great.
Right. The ORB problem is just pure minutia, that is just being driven by a bunch of half wits that have no clue on what a functioning camera is all about.
Here's a ruined image. I love this shot. I was out with my defective X10 (that I cannot return, despite being only a few weeks old), and took this image. I love the colors, the curves, the lines that are drawn all over the image. I have been to this location many times, but never quite saw the potential there until this day. As you can see, there are ORBS all over the bottom and the top. The typical person who sees this image goes right past them. But I see it and I dont like it. If all I cared about was the common person's opinion, I could save a LOT of money and shoot with all my older gear. Of course, with the X10 the older gear would not produce ORBS.
That photo is only ruined because you say it's ruined. Plain and simple. The rest of us (common, uneducated buffoons that you say we are) manage to see the colors, the curves, and the lines. Total princess and the pea scenario. That said, if you're unhappy, it's your money to be unhappy with, so more power to you. Just don't tell the rest of us we're idiots because we disagree.

The only post in this thread that uses the word idiot is yours. So look in the mirror on that one. Nor did I call anyone uneducated. Judging from the accuracy in how you write, I can see however that such an accusation is probably commonly leveled at you.
