p.1 #1 · Mt. Shasta B&W (adjusted)

Hi guys -

It's been a long time since I've posted anything - Haven't been shooting much at all since I moved to the PNW. Not that there isn't a lot to shoot. I simply just haven't had the time. I made a trip down to Mt. Shasta (where I'm from) a month ago and hiked Black Butte while I was there. Got a few keepers from the hike -

Mt. Shasta -

Notice the lack of snow!? I've never seen the mountain so bare in early January and usually the location I shot this from would be under several feet of snow this time of year.

C&C always welcome and appreciated. I'm on a new computer/monitor since the last time I posted. I'd appreciate feed back on how things look. Tried to make it contrasty but it shouldn't be blown out or too dark anywhere. From my screen at least! Haha -

Tim -

Adjusted variation based on feedback:

The foreground ice is a little cooler in this rendering, also there is a bit more overall contrast as well as some selective dodging/burning. Also a slightly different crop. C&C appreciated! Thanks -

Hey Tim,

Yeah, the lack of snow is sure crazy! Overall, a very cool shot. I really like the composition and the overall feel of the shot. The snow in the foreground seems too hot to me, but the exposure in the rest of the shot seems fine.

Fine shot Tim, it's very attractive.

Very nice composition indeed! For me, I wouldn't mind seeing a wee bit MORE contrast actually, and the snow mid-right is indeed blown out.

Lovely viewpoint Tim. Nice to see you posting again. A bit ironic for a topic considering your move.

Nice view of the peak. And you are sure right about the astonishingly small amount of snow.

I had to look twice at the posting date after reading the first part of the dialogue - that snow cover almost looks like mid August instead of January. We are having a dry winter up in the PDX area but nothing as drastic as that.

Back to your image - I like the BW for this one. Nice tonal range and the conversion makes the scene feel tight for my eyes.

Hey Tim, I like the comp, especially the shale rock in the FG. As Jim said, the snow is a bit hot, takes away from the beautiful peak...

Thanks for the feed back guys - I'll repost a touched up variation based on the comments.

Alan - I climbed Mt. Shasta mid July 2011 and there was far more snow then than in this image! Your August snow pack level is a pretty spot on guess for what the norm would be. I'd say the same -
