Since the Nikon forum is now a D800 forum, I just want to add that the D800 is now made in Thigh Land instead of Jar Pan. This may explain the lower cost despite the higher Yen conversion.

Not that it matters.

According to amatuer photographer Nion confirmed the d800 is made in Japan.

I cannot check my D700 - I just sold it the other week

but I'm pretty sure it was manufactured in Thailand... Great body, I already miss it!

By the rate people are pre-ordering it, it will all be sold no matter if it is made in Japan, Thailand, Malaysia or even China.

It used to be that FX bodies were made in Japan and DX bodies were made in Thailand.

I don't know if it's still the same with all the problems they have had.

The Nikon D800 and D4 are both produced in Sendai, Japan. The facility is able to produce a total of 50,000 bodies a month to ensure Nikon is able to meet up with growing customer demand.

This is from the horse's mouth at the D800/D4 launch.

It's made in Japan but kinda who cares anyway.

The canon rebels are made in Japan and the nikon d300 is made in Thailand.
Still know what I'd rather.
