I really like the composition in the first shot. The graceful shape of the bird contrasts very nicely inside the angles of the frame.

You might want to try and dig a bit more feather detail out of the first using layers and adjusting the opacity of a linear burn. The second has beautiful detail and I love the green mating patch Troy.
