Hopefully not too off topic.
Next week I had planned to shoot in various locations in eastern Utah. Getting to canyonlands and arches was a bit of a priority.
Weather forecast are now saying chances for rain/snow across the region through at least mid-week.
For those who have been there -- or live near there -- in poor conditions... how usable are the roads in and around the parks? Do they take care of them well?
This doesn't seem to be a major blizzard, but nevertheless... trying to figure out what to do. I could bail and try to find a target in a totally different location... or could try to work with the weather. I'm hoping that the precip would come and go -- certainly can have some fun with clouds breaking up and or snow.

Changing weather means many photo opportunities...
Indeed. Hoping for some quick clearing after weather events. Guess I'm trying to figure out if I'm going to be socked in with 24hrs of cloud/precip at a given time.

I never put much stock in the weather forecast. They are often wrong, and even if right the opportunity is still there for good photos. Snow around Moab is a blessing, not a problem.

Here's the latest model run. http://wxug.us/k2kp
Hit the > button to animate. You might also look a th3 300mb plot - it shows jet stream location and strength. These models are reasonably accurate out to 2~3 days. Beyond that, system timing and strength start to vary significantly.
I don't see any signs of a long blizzard invading the area. The storm scheduled to arrive on the 15th will be gone in a day, leaving lots of pretty snow. Go, or you'll regret it!

We haven't had much rain or snow here all winter, maybe 1-2 decent storms. I wouldn't worry about it. Even if it does dump on you, that makes for some great shot opportunities. Any roads in the major parks will be well maintained, I wouldn't worry about it.

it looks like it's going to be gray and depressing through about Tuesday. Not much precip likely but the cloud ceiling is pretty low right now. Could get some good sky on Wed-Fri as the system moves out.

The access roads in and around Arches and Canyonlands are well mantained are are all weather roads. Just don't try off roading or dirt roads if there was a soaking rain recently.
Hav fun!
