Aside from the excellent reasons provided in the petition there's the additional problem that such a move would undoubtedly hurt countless small businesses that provide camera repair services throughout the country. I don't think this is the time to knock the air out of the chest of any small businesses.
I so agree, I also agree with what was said about how long term this change could affect all camera owners if the other shops can't repair nikon then they wouldn't be able to continue to stay open if half of their business is taken away from them.
I signed the other day.. As i understand, authorized repair centers will still be able to do repairs, so i'm not too worried... It's the "hey i need a lens mount screw, or a new rubber grip, and they wont sell to you" that bugs me...

Another reason all working pros should join NPS. It's FREE, afterall.
One can only join NPS if one earns 100% of one's income from photography. I interpret that to mean that if a photogtrapher has to work some additional non-photography job to earn enough, they are not eligible for NPS. Additionally, even if both jobs involve the use of Nikon equipment, you still might not be eligible if the other job is defined as a primarily as non-photographic one. For example, if you work in a job that requires medical photography part-time, you're not eligible anymore.
CPS, on the other hand, which one pays for, allows you to use a job that is involved in the creation of images with Canon equipment. So as long as all of your jobs involve some use of Canon equipment, you're still eligible. So if you shoot part-time and do photo lab work involving Canon part time, you might still be eligible. Of course, you have to pay for CPS.
