Since that fellow was decked in camo duds head to tow, perhaps he thought he could sneak up to the owl real close undetected.

I think that sums up the absurdity of this. That owl can probably see in to the next county. Let alone miss a giant dude 10 feet away.

I talked to a wildlife biologist in the Skagit area. He mentioned a popular spot, and said if you're wearing a pink athletic suit pushing a stroller the birds don't move, but as soon as someone approaches in camo the birds scatter. lol.

His excuse was that he had to get close because he didn't have a telephoto lens on his cell phone. After watching bird photographers yelling, waving their arms, and beeping their car horns to get flight shots of migrating white pelicans, snow geese, and cranes, I've stopped sharing the locations of my favorite photography sites unless I know and trust the photographers. Plus some are just too dumb to understand that slamming their car doors and rushing up embankments will ruin the photo opportunities for them and everyone else.

This isn't as unreal as it sounds. I often photograph in a refuge surrounded by hunt clubs. I dress in jeans and a plain t-shirt, and snow geese fly low over me and my 600mm on a tripod without any change in flight path. But when they see the hunters in their camo, they immediately veer away. It probably doesn't take many bangs, pellets, and plummeting flock mates to make an impression....

I admonished some photographers not to over pursue the snowy that was in Pa. and pretty much got told to mind my own business. People who have no respect for the birds also usually have no respect for other people. They are selfish and more important than the rest of us. This is why many photographers are afraid to give away a good spot. They don't not want anyone else to get a great picture they just don't want the birds abused by idiots. With the lenses available and some patience we should be able to get an acceptable shot. If not than maybe it wasn't meant to be. Here is my best shot of the Pa snowy. It took me 8 hours of driving and 10 hours of waiting. I was over 100 yards away because I refused to encroach where I shouldn't. It is not as good as I would have liked but I am proud of it

I want a hat with a rat painted on top!
Ha, when my hair was shorter hawks would circle me to see if a rat was under a tree, lol. Quite convenient, lol.

All kidding aside, I wish there was a way to express what we have all learned about nature to beginners and over-enthusiasts! And keep the info OFF the net!!

Just saw the hummer, thats sad! It does happen to glass sliders at home too. I have heard of one owl that died doing that, after a flash went off.
