Both are pretty nice. My preference is the first. The second seems slightly overexposed and the loss of detail for me detracts on first encounter, but I see what you may have been attempting to achieve with it.

The first is really great - the pelican looks as if it's trying an emergency stop before crashing into that great big lens hence the wide eyes. A real winner.
