First of all, Fred, you're totally right. That is some very impressive photography with some very average gear.
Secondly, WHAT IN THE WORLD?!?!?! How have I never noticed that you are from San Clemente? I was born and raised here. Wow, I hope I get to meet you someday. This site is epic. Thanks for the hard work!

Look what she can do with this "equipment". That should put the gear talk into perspective. http://www.flickr.com/photos/didenze/sets/72157625201623175/
Yeah, lets get back to business. Can someone explain to me can someone finally explain to me how the magnifaction factor relates to, say, a 200mm lens as compared to other optics when they are labeled "12x" or "15x" ? Sorry for the OT reply, I'm just tired of hearing people crying about the new Nikon.

Although I agree with much of what you said, you have to admit that being very good at post processing is a huge chunk of the equation. Something I need to work on.

They're probably laughing their asses off on the Nikon board....
Yes they are, there's a thread about that.

Wtf people? are we grown men or boys running after rumours and and new toys?
Uh.........

Ok, we can all agree... Canon is shite and they gave us the finger (for a while now)..
...Yes

Now we either man the f*** up (pardon the expression) and go on with what we've got and what we're being offered, or we switch systems...

Will the new Nikon make anyone a "better" photographer? I've upgraded about everytime Canon came out with something new. I finally realized the equipment wouldn't make me any better, I have to make my self better.
No of course not. But it will allow good photographers to do more with their images (i.e. bigger prints). That flexibility has value outside of any discrete photographic skill.
Still she sets a benchmark most of us here struggle to measure up to.

I don't think anyone ever would argue that a rebel and cheap lenses aren't capable of achieving very amazing images, in fact they are very capable for what she's shooting. But don't forget her photoshop skills are what's "making" these images if you will.
With that said, put the 50L or 85L on my rebel and shoot wide open with outer focus points in AI servo reliably? Now that rebel isn't as capable and that's when the gear becomes a larger part of the formula.

Simple solution adrianb: rack off if you don't like the forum. Plenty of other sites out there.
I think I can take decisions for myself... but if this is your level of argument then perhaps you fit right in....this fanboy - gear talk..
I was just making a point. If at some stage I feel that FM doesn't have anything good for me, I'll be on my own way, no need for you or others to 'show me that way out"....
...I think it is the product of "social networking" where everybody has the "right" to say WTF they like, everybody else MUST listen, and everybody else is WRONG.

She understands great photography is understanding light. Equipment matters but knowledge is better.
adrianb says Tell that to those battling on the D800/5D III/1DX threads.....
I call it a successful marketing campaign, however one should ask themselves, Am I in their plan or my plan? I never understood the loyalty associated with flavors, marketing survives on this stuff.

thank you! Yes. I should go more often out and shoot instead of beeing part of those endless threads ...! Here one can see what one can do if he just uses his/her existing gear.
But of course in this case I guess only the location spoted in CA makes the race! I immediately signed on a traveling forum to discuss better places to shoot, then Lohmar, germany ...
