p.1 #1 · Manfrotto Neotec 458B Tripod. Reviews? Quick set up important to me.

Good afternoon! In the spirit of trying to buy something once, then have it for years, I'm needing to upgrade my tripod. I'd like to go ahead and get something that will serve me for quite a while. I primarily shoot city shots and photo-journalistic style, as my wife writes for a variety of magazines and I shoot for all her pieces. Many of them are travel pieces, so weight is also a consideration, as I want something easy to have with me, yet not a constant frustration.

A mentor I've been meeting with loves the 458B, which I was about to immediately order, per his recommendation. However, after reading a few reviews, I have heard that the legs have had some reliability issues. That was it's biggest advantage to me- the fact that you can just pull the legs to the desired height...it's very quick and easy, unlike having to click and adjust 12 separate pieces.

Not to over analyze, as I realize it's just a tripod, but I'd like to make the right decision. Do you have this model? Any issues? Weight been a problem? Any other quick set-up models you'd recommend?

As always, many thanks for your responses. Appreciate you guys!

the 458b was my first tripod
i loved its convenience, but the tripod has serious stability issues, probably due the fact it is a push/pull mechanism, over time, it started to become loose, if you shoot landscape, it's not going to be a problem but if you require a bit more precision, i would avoid it to be very honest
another thing i didn't like is the weight, it weights 2.4kg if i remember correctly, where most gitzo at this price range are lighter and steadier
if you like to keep the tripod for long, gitzo systematic or RRS tvc tripods should be the one to look for IMO
