I never bought the original 24-70mm L and have no plans to get the II version. When I want versatility and walk-about lens I have my 24-105mm f/4L IS USM. When I need something faster I have my primes 35mm f/1.4L and 50mm f/1.2L.
If it had IS, I'd probably consider it to replace my 24-105mm zoom.
I pre-ordered and am looking forward to receiving this lens; esp after aquiring the new 70/200. I understant others wanting to bundle and/or hop on the next rebate. I can afford it now.
Recent events have convinced money is much less important than time.

You are right, life is to short to just sit on the sidelines, go out and play and if it's anything like it's bigger brother then it is going to be one hell of a lens, finally a nice combo with the 70-200 2.8 IS MKII. I had the original and had a love/hate relationship with it but mostly hate.

The 16-35, 24-70, 70-200 combination is getting better all the time. Its hard to beat the flexibility that this setup offers but the recent prices are a little crazy. I have the 24-70 2.8 MKI and 70-200 F4 which seem like a real bargain compared to the prices recently. UK prices are 16-35 MKII( £1150 ), 24-70 MKII (£2299) & 70-200 2.8 MKII ( £1870 ) which is just mad!
