i doubt the D3X will drop below $7K simply because of manufacturing cost. Nikon expects to sell very few of them now.

D2x redux. I can't see how a used D3x would sell for any more than $2,300 except maybe for those who require the extra weather sealing vs the D800, assuming there is extra.

What evidence is there that a D3x is better sealed than a D800? Well obviously none now since nobody has handled a D800 but consider that the "marketing language" for the D800 is word for word identical to the D4 in terms of build and weather sealing. That would at least suggest identical levels of sealing between the two.

all I could think of at the moment is the connection between the grip and d800 body (if one opted for the grip)

I meant resale prices. I doubt Nikon is still producing D3x bodies.

i think they still are, just not many. there are people who still need to replace existing units purely because they are replacements. think the corporate owner.

And they'd be right.

Even build quality of D3x would be no where near enough to make you have second thoughts. D3x is deader than the dodo.

What is bizarre is Sony's FF replacement for a900 is delayed. Only price is keeping that one viable for the moment and with D800 even some of the die hard Canikon haters must be tempted.

I was one of those people that purchased a D3x in Sydney for $12.500 AUD.
This was when it was first released and the exchange rate was not so good!
Will I get a D800 ? No
Will I get a D4x? Yes
(If it will be released,I do think so)

Did my D3x pay for itself? Many times over! No regrets!

Amazing how Nikon is willing to put premium features in their prosumer camera, unlike Canon who reserved the goodies for the 1D series cameras. The D800 has the same processor, the same focusing system and the same video setup at the D4. This new camera represents an incredible value for money. It will likely find a home in my kit at some time in the near future but I'm guessing there will be so much demand that the wait will be long.

The D3x was never on the radar screen for me in large measure because I don't want such a

It make business sense and nikon needs to sell some stuff. Think of all the natural disasters.
Seeing how hot the 5Dmkii became around the world ... the D800 should do nicely.

canon will fart around and try to maintain the 1D superiority.....

Good move on Nikons part.
