I have to cover the Open this weekend. Anyone out there have any suggestions on
good shooting locations for that course? Ive played the course years ago, just never shot PGA there. Any help would be appreciated.
I would suggest getting out there for a practice round and scoping the place out. I know with an event like this I wouldn't want to go into it blind and know knowing the course and have a plan in place for where I might want to shoot. Seems to me a practice round would be the great place to figure all that out.
The 16th hole has the dramatic backdrop of 20,000 people around a short par 3, and with its tradition of having the rowdiest fans on the PGA tour, you're sure to get some good reaction shots from the players. It's not the make or break hole, but it certainly is the most fun.
Wow!!... the16th actually has a stadium structure COMPLETLEY AROUND the hole. From t box to green. These fans are
nuts. Whens the last time you saw fans at a golf tournament do the wave? They boo the bad shots and cheer the good ones.
The entire course is set up as a stadium. The course itself is sunken below street level and there is a ton of space as with other golf courses. The toughest part of this tournament is the sheer number of people that will be packed in to the stadium course it could obscure your views especially on the weekend when it gets very crowded. The 16 has an amazing ambiance like no other single hole on the entire PGA. It is like the super bowl of par threes thousands of people waiting and drinking hoping for that one miracle hole in one. It is loud and like no other single hole during the year. There should be plenty of room around the greens to shoot from. I would recommend greeting there a day early and walking the course.
