Got a wedding next weekend, the reception will have about 40 guests, and it's at a restaurant, but not a private room... I'm planning on putting up a couple strobes on super clamps ( they have some wood beams/posts around that will work well).... Question is, do you think other guests in the restaurant would be upset with a couple strobes firing?? I mean 1/32 power flashes might go unnoticed... Thoughts??
Well, for a wedding reception, my GUESS is no, because after all, it's a wedding.
Having said that, about a month ago, a friend & I were told to not take pictures in a restaurant in which we had eaten dinner. Really busy? Hardly. It was a Monday night, and we were 15' away from the nearest other guests.
We were getting some cheezy humorous images of me passed out in front of my Pelican 1650 case, and the mgr told me that some guests "complained" of the 2 SB-900 flashes going off.
In a restaurant, I might bounce a flash but it's unlikely I'd be setting up remote flashes for a 40-person reception. I don't imagine there's going to be any dancing with a party that small, and you don't need multiple flashes to cover that well.
I'm thinking i'll bounce too, but i want more contrasty lighting than just bounced.. But it may be the best option....i'll gel the flash and keep the ambient about a stop below the flash.. The other issue is the ceilings are dark brown wood... Not ideal to bounce... I'll prob set up both and see what works best...
