I have a Bigma and the rear barrel is loose and is constricting the focus ring and possibly the auto focus too. I had a local guy look at it, he'd prefer not to touch it. So it looks like Sigma Service is now about my best option.
I looked on Sigma's site and it appears they have service centers they contract with, as well as maybe one or so of their own service centers. I am in WI and my closest is in Elk Grove, IL. There are also ones in NY, AZ and GA.
Seeing how I have to ship this out and have it shipped back, where the center is located would only add a couple of days travel time at most. The cost to ship between the closest and furthest also isn't significant.
So have you had experiences with one of these or hopefully more than one, where you can give me some input on who is going to do the better job and do it faster
Thanks for your help.... I am hoping to ship out Monday AM.
i always send my sigmas to NY service center. Ive sent 2 lenses to have a firmware update only(sent it at different times) and when they came back the dust inside the lenses were gone and they came back like new (paint was peeled on some areas of the lenses when i sent them in, brand new when i got them back )
I would call Sigma New York. What Sigma will tend to do is if you send it to NY they may end up sending out to say Arizona or one of ther other facilities. So I called them and asked they confirmed this. To save time I sent my lens directly to the Arizona facility. The lens came back as good as new.
Just a little more background on why the question.
I came to Nikon from the video side of capture and my brand of choice was Panasonic. Two common themes on any of the Panny boards I have read or posted to has been:
1. an extreme customer loyalty, and
2. horror stories about Panasonic Service here in the US.
Panasonic Service at the time had been located somewhere in the Chicago area. Now I am not saying these are the same guys, but a review of the Sigma contract service center site from Elk Grove Village, IL does list Panasonic as being affiliated with them.
So that's "the why" of the question and am hoping to see more rave reviews but it's looking like NY seems to be the place.
I called Sigma in NY and was told, despite what their site says, that if I send it there it will stay there and be repaired in NY. So thanks guys..... going to be sending it out in the morning.
