Peter,
Lovely colors and a dreamy melty BG in 1 & 5. One Q: I have seen many a Canadian geese shots from you and they are all different. Never repetitive. Do those geese always in flight ? The ones I see in my backyard and generally here in Chicago and burbs are rather lazy and stationary. So how do you manage

Peter,
Always a pleasure to see your pictures and posts. I agree with your thoughtful introspection here - kind of like enjoying both the cake AND the icing.

Nice mood on these Peter.
I really like #3, nice patterning showing on the goose, a bit of eye contact and a nice feel of depth and darker hues. Great light on the top of the wings and body, clever shot.
I see #4 two ways, very nice colors with good detail and light on the wing area and an appreciative reflection. Now, remove 1/3 of that reflection and it 'frees up' the fluid motion of the Cormie traveling to the left, just how I see and 'feel' it
Oh, the water in the last is to die for, stunning!

Karl, you sure have one good eye for pictures, old friend.
I agree with you, No.3 is the strongest compo/background because it is staged or layered, if you will, and the bird flies right into it.
Now, I will do to the cormorant as you have suggested, and then we'll take another look....your idea sure sounds interesting.......a reflection drag exerted on the swimmers ?
Here are a few more colourful backgrounds. BTW, that's not the outline of Conrad with the lens on No.1. Could be Tony Markle perhaps ?

Ahh Peter you know I like to get in 'deep' in a shot and appreciate the big and little things and I like your style.
The first shot here is one I like a lot, a defined subject yet a 'mystery' in the BG, plays fun on the mind and is a picture within a picture If he is in flip flops then it is Conrad for sure
#2 here looks a little 'cooked' in that light, maybe just a little tooo much contrast for me, chest area is the culprit of harshness for me...
#3 here is is a passionate color scape. The gull doesn't intrude or steal too much attention. A nice 'buttery' look to it but the little 'bubble' of light around the beak does bug me
Last shot is wall art for sure. What a great feel of peace and rich color but nothing harsh or off balance contrasted.
I would however add some landscape left and may even trim off a little tail on the BG quacker This seems if you shot from 'below' water level, neat one and how bout a titch more light in the eye of your subject?
Fun, and a very interpretive style my friend. Enjoyable.

Karl, all comments well taken, some photoshop polish would sure improve those captures, as you suggest. I am often torn by the selfimposed limits of capture vs. photoshop.
However, the goose in flight wasn't exposed right......too much light....it happens often when direct sun hits their chest or flanks..

I love your backgrounds just as much as the subjects...I do see how much you take that into consideration before pressing the trigger. Well thought out and executed Peter.

Mission accomplished Peter... you have captured some beautiful environmental canvases on which to hang the focus points of the selected birds.
They're all beautiful with 4 and 5 being my favorites.

Appreciate it, Eric. The way that usually works with me is that I find some nice background first, and then I wait for something to fly or swim into it.
