I did a search and found that this question has been asked a few times before. But I was wondering if there has been any recent developments on alternate suppliers for bulk ink for the Canon 9500 II printer. If not, why hasn't someone developed an alternate supply for this popular printer?
I'm seriously thinking about getting a Canon 9000 II printer due to the availability on 3rd party ink. The ink cartridges are getting expensive at $110+ a set!
Any insight on availability of a good quality ink would be appreciated!
If you have space for the 9000 mark ii you can get one for free [after rebate] from B&H if you buy certain cameras and lenses. For lenses check after the instant rebates expire tomorrow.
For example, I got the pixma 9000 with my Rebel t3i. I am promised a complete rebate of the $400 I spent for the printer. Pixma 9500 is available with a $500 rebate.
The offer is good through March 31.
I just bought a new Canon 9000 Mk II printer from a guy on craigslist. I got it set up and printed a color and b&w photo with the 9000 Mk II and 9500 Mk II for comparison. I printed both on 8.5" X 11" Red River UltraPro Satin paper using the correct ICC color profiles.
I preferred the prints from the 9500 a little more than the 9000. The 9000 seemed to have a bit of a magenta cast in comparison to the 9500 which seemed a little more neutral. But this was very subtle. The 9000 colors were slightly more saturated also.
The black and white prints were more differentiated. The 9500 produced more detail in the grays. It seemed like the tone was a more gradual shift from light to black. The 9000 had a bit of a brownish cast also (I had "grayscale" printing turned on).
For my purposes, I'm going to keep the 9000 Mk II and sell the 9500 Mk II. The prints are good enough.
I will be ordering the OCP ink to refill the carts. Do I need a special ICC color profile for the OCP ink, or can I use the Canon color profiles.
I use OCP inks with my Pro9000 as they cost about £3 per 100ml bottle......and the company is a major ink producer with an international reputation. Although Canon profiles can be used I just paid to have some profiles made up with my ink / paper combination..
I also rejected the Pro9500 as no one seems to make ink for it, and got the Epson R2880 instead....primarily for B+W prints. I am using the Epson profiles for this.
